This Pressure canner and cooker by T-Fal is a beginner-friendly model that comes with some nice extra features including a pressure gauge, safety valve, a double rack, and a patented locking mechanism that will prevent the lid from being removed when the pot is pressurized.

This is a twenty-two-quart aluminum model that features a solid, rustproof construction that tells me this is one canner that’s designed to last. This two in one appliance performs the same duties as a standard pressure cooker and canner, saving you time, money, energy, and counter space.

This model has an excellent capacity, so you can cook a large roast or process several jars for canning in one batch. It’s versatile, comes with a double rack design, which allows you to stack jars to process twice the capacity per batch that many models in this price bracket offer, and it’s available at a reasonable price. So, if you’re looking for a model that can save you time, energy, money, and counter space, this model by T-Fal delivers.

Overview and Features

Pressure cookers and canners have gotten a bad rap over the years, mainly due to the dangers associated with older models that didn’t come equipped with vents, pressure gauges, and pressure plugs, all of which are designed to prevent the machine from exploding.

These days, nearly every modern model is equipped with several safety features that will allow you to sit back and relax as you can or cook your dinner in less than half the time it would take with a regular oven.

These machines are also much more affordable than they were just a few years ago. T-Fal is known for its versatile kitchen appliances ranging from espresso machines and toasters to rice cookers and pressure cookers.

This hybrid model really sets the bar, providing a versatile machine that can handle all the heavy cooking for you. If you’ve been too intimidated in the past to give pressure cooking a chance in the past, then this beginner-friendly model that’s loaded with all the right safety features will be a great buy and the perfect machine to learn how to can or pressure cook.

T-Fal Pressure Cooker, Pressure Canner with Pressure Control

Our Rating: (4.5/5)

  • Works as a pressure cooker and canner in one
  • Three pressure settings
  • Lightweight design
  • Stay-cool handles
  • Beginner-friendly
  • Large capacity
  • Double rack for faster processing

Design

Well-built, featuring a beginner-friendly design, this model comes with a deluxe dial pressure gauge that makes it easy to choose the right pressure setting based on the type of food you’re processing. This model is also very versatile and can be used as a pressure cooker. It can handle cooking a brisket or large roast, and several canning jars per batch.

This combination pressure cooker and canner will allow you to quickly process seasonal fruits and veggies, make soup and stews, or cook a large roast in just a fraction of the time it would take in a conventional oven. The beginner-friendly design also ensures you use the correct pressure setting for both cooking processes.

Capacity

This is a twenty-two-quart pot that’s perfect for pressure canning and can easily accommodate up to sixteen wide mouth jars, or eight regular mouth quart jars, or twenty-six half-pints. The double rack design allows you to stack jars so you can process more per batch.

However, the rack design prevents you from stacking pint-sized regular mouth jars. Overall, this model is perfect for the serious canner who has several jars to process every season. To learn more about the ins and outs of canning, stop by and read my guide on pressure canning.

Design

The light, heavy-duty aluminum construction features a pressure monitoring gauge in the handle. The pressure valve releases steam should the pot build more pressure than what you’ve selected. As you probably already know, aluminum is naturally rust-resistant, which makes this model very low maintenance.

Aluminum is a lightweight material, but it’s actually almost as durable as stainless steel. It also has a reputation for better heat conduction, which means it does a better job of cooking food faster and evenly.

Pressure Dial

This model comes equipped with a pressure dial, which makes it easier to choose the appropriate pressure setting based on what type of food you’re processing.

The pressure dial is easy to use, especially considering you only have a few pressure settings to choose from including:

  • Five PSI
  • Ten PSI
  • Fifteen PSI

However, on the knob itself, it reads as one, two, and three. Obviously one is the lowest (5PSI) setting, while three (15 PSI) is the highest setting. The pressure setting knob is brightly lit and very easy to read.

Warranty

This model comes with an impressive ten-year limited warranty on the machine and a one year warranty for replacement parts. Most models in this price range only come with a one to five-year warranty. This lengthy warranty will give buyers confidence in their purchase knowing that the manufacturer stands behind their products.

Ease of Use

This model can be used on all range types including induction stovetops. Using this canner is basically foolproof. It comes loaded with some great safety features including a locking lid that remains securely locked in place while the pot is pressurized and will not unlock until the pressure is released. The pressure indicator is another great safety feature that’s located on the lid and allows you to keep a close eye on the pressure level throughout the cooking process.

The pot’s variable steam release valve works by releasing steam when needed for improved control and safety.

The safety handles will stay cool while the rest of the pot heats up, so you can easily move the pot immediately after it’s finished processing jars or pressure cooking a roast.

Pressure Cooking Power

As I mentioned earlier, this model can also be used as a pressure cooker, so you’re getting two appliances for the price of one. Pressure cookers can cook food at a much faster rate compared to a conventional oven. They also preserve flavor and nutrients compared to pan-frying, baking, or boiling.

The fact that pressure cooking food can cook food seventy percent faster than other cooking methods is more than enough reason to buy. This machine can cook a brisket or roast in less than two hours. Additionally, you can purchase cheaper cuts of meat or tougher cuts and they’ll turn out tender and juicy.

This appliance can also be used to cook hardboiled eggs, vegetables, stews, soups, and more. You can use the included recipe book and experiment with making new dishes for the family. You’ll be impressed by how fast it cooks food to perfection and without negatively impacting the texture, flavor, or nutrient content.

T-Fal Versus Ball Fresh TECH Electric Water Bath Canner and Multi-Cooker

The competing model, the Ball Fresh Tech water bath canner offers a comparable performance, but it’s available for a higher price. So how does it measure up to this model by T-Fal? This model is not a pressure cooker, but it can be used for water bath canning, pressure canning, or steaming food such as rice and veggies. In terms of versatility, it can allow you to cook a wider range of dishes such as seafood, pasta, soup, and more.

It also uses twenty percent less energy than other competing models and comes loaded with more safety features. Its slightly higher price just may be worth it, if you’re looking for one of the safest models on the market.

Choosing the correct pressure setting couldn’t be easier, using the included one dial control, complete with three pressure setting options. However, if you want a pressure canner that can also work as a pressure cooker, then you’re out of luck.

This is one of the best pressure canners from T-Fal. Its ability to work as a pressure cooker and canner in one gives you more bang for your buck and allows you to cook your food seventy percent faster. When used as a canner, the ability to stack jars, combined with the canner’s high capacity will allow you to process all of your fruits and veggies in half the time.
