Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Pressure Cooker Review

Welcome back to Top Pressure Cooker Reviews! Today’s review is probably going to be a short one.

This is because we are reviewing the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Pressure Cooker! If that name and model sounds familiar, then you are right! We already have another review up for an almost identical sounding Kuhn Rikon stainless steel pressure cooker!

So what’s the difference here? Well, pretty much the fact that this model is the stockpot variety, rather than the saucepan variety. Along with this is the fact that the stockpot version of the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic comes with some slightly larger quart sizes.

If you think you would have any interest in the saucepan variant, why not head over to our other review on the Kuhn Rikon 3344 model!

I will also start with the usual advice for any stainless steel pressure cooker. You should decide whether a stove top or electric pressure cooker will better suit your needs. If you head over to our homepage (and look on the lower portion), you will find a quick crash course to help you with this decision. There would be nothing worse than buying the wrong type of pressure cooker all together!

Without further a do, lets get on with the stockpot version of the Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Pressure Cooker Review

Design and Looks

This stockpot Duromatic pressure cooker still has the same dashing good looks as it’s saucepan sister! I actually prefer the look of this stockpot slightly more, as it doesn’t have an unsightly handle sticking out the side of it!

The design of this stainless steel pressure cooker also makes a statement about quality. When I see it’s thick and well chiseled stainless steel looks, this is the first thing I think of!

From a practical point of view, this design will give you more space on your stove top (again, due to the lack of obtrusive handle!). It will also (arguably) give you a firmer grip on your Kuhn Rikon Pressure cooker when it is heavy. I don’t know about you, but I much prefer holding onto two equal handles, rather than one small and one long handle like you would do with the saucepan.

Of course, most of this will be down to your own personal preferences and needs!

Capacity

The stockpot Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Pressure Cooker will also be ideal for anyone wanting a larger stainless steel pressure cooker. It comes in two sizes, 6.3 and 8.4 quarts. The larger version being pretty much a full quart bigger than the largest Kuhn Rikon saucepan variant available.

So, if you have a larger family to cook for (or a need to extra space for pressure canning), this pressure cooker would be a good fit.

Notable Features

Can be used as a pressure canner

As we often discuss on this website, using pressure cookers to pressure seal jars of food in a technique called pressure canning, is becoming more popular.

High quality stainless steel pressure cookers are recommended for pressure canning, and this Kuhn Rikon Duromatic would work a charm.

In fact, some important governmental organisations in America have actually warned against using electric pressure cookers when pressure canning.

Stainless Steel with Solid Aluminium Core

The Duromatic pressure cooker is made out of 18/10 stainless steel. This surrounds a core that is made from solid aluminum. This core combined with the strong outer layer allows for cooking that is quick and even.

Automated Lid Locking System

This Kuhn Rikon Duromatic Pressure Cooker features a special auto locking lid mechanism, that will lock down and not open under pressure.

This lid also features a spring loaded pressure release valve, allowing you to release pressure in a quick or slow manner. This also has markings on it to show you that the pressure cooker is at the desired pressure.

Can be put in the dishwasher

This stainless steel pressure cooker is totally dishwasher safe, making the clean up process easy and simple if you have a dishwasher in your home.

Extremely Quiet

I have memories of the stainless steel pressure cookers used in my childhood, which gave off a rather loud sound! These days, modern pressure cookers are built to be much quieter. They may make a slight hiss whilst coming up to pressure, but after this little sound should be heard. This Kuhn Rikon Duromatic is no different. Just don’t forget you are cooking in it!

  • Quiet
  • Safe

What does the average consumer think?

I love to use Amazon as a gauge of public opinion on pressure cookers. This particular review throws up some interesting points here.

At the time of writing this review there were 78 customer reviews available, with the average rating for this pressure cooker being 4.3 out of 5 stars. This is for the 6.3 quart stockpot version only.

I find this interesting, because in our review of the almost identical saucepan version, the reviews were quite a bit lower.

Most of the plus and minus points for each were along similar lines, just that this stockpot version has generally more positive reviews. For me, this validates the quality of both versions. Maybe they just had a “dodgy” production run at some point on the saucepan version.

Most of the people that purchased this pressure cooker were very happy stating that this is likely the best pressure cooker on the market for the price. They love the quality and long life that this product offers.

One of the major complaints about the product was about the customer service provided by the company if something goes wrong with your pressure cooker. For example, a  customer that commented about the service said that the service people were friendly, but that service took a very long time.

Overall, the majority of consumers have been happy with their choice of pressure cooker after buying this item. Many people rave about how easy it is to use and that clean-up is a breeze considering you can put it in the dishwasher.

Conclusion & Rating

Our Rating: (4.5/5)

Well, thank you for reading our Kuhn Rikon Duromatic pressure cooker review. This stainless steel stockpot variant currently retails for around $175. For this price, you get a very high quality and great performing pressure cooker.

This Duromatic pressure cooker should last you for many years to come. Yes, some $20 seals may need replacing along the way, but the general build of the product should remain intact.

This is yet another Kuhn Rikon stainless steel pressure cooker we recommend.

If you have any of your own experience with this pressure cooker, we would love to hear all about it in the comments section below.
